Leonardo Campos Duarte da Silva , commonly known as Leo Duarte, is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Serie A club Milan as a centre-back.
AC Milan career
On 27 July 2019, Brazilian press announced the agreement between Flamengo and Milan in a €10 million transfer with a clause that could potentially rise to €11 million. On 7 August 2019, Duarte was officially announced as a Milan player on a five-year deal.
In the first season for AC Milan Leo Duarte did not get many chances to prove his qualities. This was mainly because the rossoneri had already starting pair in the center of the defense (Romagnoli and Musacchio). However the two injuries which struck him had big impact on Duarte’s season as well. Right after Leo managed to collect few appearances for the rossoneri he injured his ankle after which he underwent surgery. Because of this injury Duarte missed 17 weeks or more than 4 months. However he did not managed to start playing as he injured himself once again. This time Hamstring injury kept him out of the fields for another 10 weeks. Duarte managed to fully recover from both injuries and was available for the 36th game of the season in Serie A with Atalanta. However he spent it on the bench, same as the 37th game with Sampdoria. Stefano Pioli gave chance to Leo in the last Serie A game of the season with Cagliari as he entered as sub and played 11 minutes. Duarte should prepare well in the pre-season and try to impress Pioli in order to get more playing time in the new 20/21 as AC Milan will play in Europa League as well.
Duarte spend most of his youth career at Flamengo winning multiples competitions, the most important was the 2016 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, the top youth tournament in Brazil, being the team captain and lifting the trophy. He had a solid tournament, being praised and along with Felipe Vizeu and Ronaldo, Duarte received has been praised as a player ready to be promoted to the professional team. Few weeks later all three players started training with the professional team.
On 5 March 2016 Duarte debuted as a starter in a 3-1 win over Bangu on a 2016 Rio de Janeiro State League match. In this particular game Flamengo fielded several young players and reserves.
Due to injuries and transfers throughout the 2016 season Duarte played in another eight matches, including seven in the 2016 Brazilian Série A and one appearance in 2016 Copa do Brasil, all matches as starter. His first Brazilian Série A match was on 14 May 2016 in a 1-0 win against Sport at Estádio Raulino de Oliveira in Volta Redonda.
On 22 August 2018 Duarte extended his contract with Flamengo until December 2022.
So far Duarte has not appeared for Brazil national team.
